Ek Titli – How it started March 18, 2008

We had thought of the concept around the month of November in 2007. The deal was to push people to plant trees and more trees, because we all know the affects of Global Warming and also how important trees are to life. Every living being is affected by a tree. It’s said that the weather patterns are also affected by the number of trees in that area. From Weather to Landslides, from shade to shelter; the tree is the only thing common.

Finally in March, 2008 the idea was conceptualized. A domain was bought. i.e., www.ektitli.org. Ek signifies ONE and Titli signifies Butterfly. i.e., A butterfly.

The life of a butterfly starts on a tree, revolves around a tree and finishes with a tree. Considering, the importance of a tree to a butterfly’s life, we named our initiative “ek titli”.

The objective is to send “letters” (we started with our relatives and friends) asking them to participate in this thought, and help the titli grow. “Letters” are only sent on occasions (birthdays, anniversary, etc) or festivals. And only a fixed amount of “letters” are sent in a month, depending upon the funds we have collected for that particular month.
The participant keep visiting the web page (to see where we have reached) and help us send more letters by recommending someone(to recommend, click here).

For the month of March, our first set of “letters”, a total of 11 “letters” have been sent (on the 17th of March) wishing them a colourful Holi.

We believe that the titli needs a tree and the titli will survive.
